Namaskaram!
Happy Onam to one and all! Although I am not a Malayali, I had the opportunity to celebrate this beautiful festival with some of my Keralite friends. Onam happens to be one of the biggest festivals of Kerala and the whole existence of it is to celebrate the harvest of the state.
Every year there is a carnival for four days and people participate with a lot of enthusiasm and joy. The Snake Boat Race or the Vallamkali is an important part of the festival where boatmen decorate their boats and sing songs to celebrate the occasion.
I had the chance to decorate my office space with rangolis using flower petals and this is called Pookalam. The celebrations ended with Onasadya, a lavish spread of 11-13 essential food items on a banana leaf.
For me, of course, it was all about the white saree! :D Although I did not wear the traditional Kasavu saree, I found the next best thing in my mum's wardrobe and wore it with pride. I basically draped this beautiful white chiffon saree with a golden blouse, some golden jewelry and some jasmine flowers on my hair.
