Of silk sarees and traditions

Hello everyone!

I have been holding on to this post for quite sometime now. By sometime, I mean it's been a year since these were shot! Last year when my brother got married, I decided to go full blast South Indian for the wedding ceremony. And what better occasion that Kannada Rajyotsava to share this blog post! :D I've never lived outside Karnataka and although I am not a big fan of all the rituals and customs that we Kannadigas usually follow during festivals and weddings, I sometimes do like to get a taste of it. Also, I love my state very, very much! So here's one to the day our Kannada Nadu was established!

But first, let me tell you a thing or two about my beautiful state. Karnataka has around 30 districts which are divided into 4 administrative divisions, around 270 towns and 29406 villages. I belong to Dakshina Kannada, which as the name suggests, is in the Southern part of the state. What's beautiful about Karnataka is the diversity in culture and there are about 20 dialects of the Kannada language and more than 40 million people speak the language all over the world.

You will be amazed to know about the different kinds of food we Kannadigas have to offer! From akki rottis and jolada rottis in the Northern part of Karnataka to Mangalorean sea food and kori rotti to the super healthy ragi mudde to pandi curry from Coorg and of course, the very famous idli vada sambhar, the state has a massive list of food items that you'd instantly fall in love with!

Now what about places to visit? If you want to do a complete Karnataka trip, you'll need at least a month to cover all the places! Some of the must-visit places are Gol Gumbaz in Bijapur, Brindavan Gardens and all the lovely palaces in Mysore, the amazing beaches in Mangalore, the beautiful temples in Hampi, the bird sanctuary in Ranganatittu, the estates of Chikamagalur and so many more!

And now coming to what my post is actually all about - I wore this multicolored saree I got from PSR. When I saw the fusion of colors, it was instant attraction! Pink, being my most favorite color, had to be a part of this gorgeous silk saree. I got some delicate embroidery done on the blouse. Since gold is a major part of our culture, I wore some gold and uncut diamonds from Tanishq on my neck and my ears. To complete the look, I wore golden bangles, a waist chain and a head accessory. The big fat braid with all the flowers used to adorn my hair is a part of our tradition.

All in all, we Kannadigas are very simple folks. We love people and we welcome everyone into our state with open arms!

Love,
Hand On The Hip
