First Impressions Matter: Make a Good One

By Hand On The Hip - 8/07/2018

Whether you have a client-facing job or work in sales, you are being judged by people every couple of hours, and the first few second after meeting you they will form an opinion. You need to make the most out of what you have and deal with your visible imperfections, so you can look and feel more confident when meeting clients or even attending a job interview. Below you will find a few areas to focus on.

Your Personal Style

You can communicate who you really are through your choice of outfits, colours, and styles. It is important that you dress for the occasion, and to impress. You might already have a personal style, but this needs to be adjusted to the event and the circumstances. You might love sneakers, but they are not appropriate for a corporate event. Likewise, you might want to avoid overdressing your supervisor at work.

Your Hair

People will also check out your hair. It needs to look well looked after and healthy. Take care of your roots and make those grays (if you have any) disappear. Get a cut and blow dry every couple of weeks if you have a shorter style or a fringe that needs to be perfectly straight to frame your face. You will also have to choose your hairstyle according to the occasion and the people you meet.

Your Smile

The first thing many people will notice is your smile. If you have stained teeth or imperfections, you might want to deal with them as soon as possible. If your uneven teeth are causing you low self-esteem and knock back your confidence, you might want to try and find the best cosmetic dentist in your area and talk to them about the potential solutions. Chances are that you will only need teeth whitening or veneers to perfect your smile.

Your Accessories

To fully express your personal style, you might also want to pay attention to how you accessorise your outfits. Choose your shoes according to the shades and colours you are wearing, and match your handbag to them. You might also invest in a couple of costume jewellery items you can combine with various outfits to complete your looks.

Your Posture

It is also crucial that you learn how to walk with confidence and maintain a healthy posture. Your body language gives a lot away about you and your attitude. Hold your head up high, keep your spine straight, and avoid folding your arms, so you can appear more confident and assertive. After all, you can wear the most sophisticated clothes, if you can’t present yourself as a strong person, you will not be taken seriously.

If you would like to look and feel more confident when meeting people and make a good first impression, you will need to think through your choice of personal style, accessories, and hair style. Consider the people you are going to see, their preferences, style, and values before you prepare for the meeting.
