1.Bowling

Bowling is a superb first date idea because there's not lots of sitting around and awkward silence moments, but it is not so busy that you don't get a chance to have a chat and find out whether date number two is on the cards.

2. Check out an oyster farm

Oysters are said to be one of the best aphrodisiac foods about, so what better thing to explore on a date! Get to know a little bit more about your food on one of the oyster farm tours before eating Barilla Bay Oysters.

3. Hit an amusement park

Test out your date's nerves and get the adrenalin pumping by paying a visit to your local amusement park. It will give you a good idea of whether your future relationship is going to be full of thrills - and it's an excellent opportunity to grab a handhold on the rollercoasters!

4. Attend a comedy night

A shared sense of humor is essential for romantic compatibility, and a comedy show is the best way of gauging what they find funny. Do they laugh at toilet humor when you find it the least funny thing on the planet? You know not to bother again. Both crack up in fits of laughter? Then you need to start planning date number two!

5. Go out for breakfast or brunch

Sometimes, going out for dinner on your first date can seem a little heavy and intense, but coffee is just too short. Breakfast or brunch is a great, no pressure compromise, and if things go well, it can be a great start to the rest of your day!

6. Go for a walk

Basic and straightforward, but can be a great way to start off a relationship. Grab a coffee to go and go for a walk around your local city. There is very little chance of awkward silence because there is always something to talk about - the weather, that impressive monument or piece of architecture, for example. You can stop off along the way for ice creams, more coffee, and if things are going well, head for dinner and drinks.

7. Take a cooking class

You will soon know if your suitor deserves a second date after a cooking class. How they approach the class and how they deal with any disasters is an excellent insight into who they are as a person!

8. Go to an open-air cinema.

Contrary to popular belief, cinemas are not usually good for a first date. They are dark, for starters, so you can't sneak a good look at your date when they are not looking. There is also no opportunity to talk and get to know one another, and if the film is terrible, you will end up bored and restless. However, open-air cinemas are a whole different matter. Most of them show old classic movies, so you know whether you are going to enjoy it, and there is not quite so much pressure to remain silent as a traditional cinema. They are popping up all over the place, so keep an eye out for one in your local area.

9. Head to an aquarium

No ambiance is more romantic (and no lighting more flattering!) than that of a softly-lit aquarium. Stroll through the darkened rooms and tunnels while you point out your favorite sea creatures behind the glass. There are definitely no opportunities for awkward silences with such magnificent animals to spark conversation!

10. Play a round or two of mini golf

This low-stakes game allows for a little lighthearted fun without feeling like you need to be competitive - but if the other person does get insane over it, that will tell you a lot about who they are! Plus, the slow pace of the game means you can chat and play without any interruption.

What are your favorite places and activities for a fun and romantic first date?
