Improve Your Life - Without Leaving The House!

By Hand On The Hip - 1/11/2020

It’s cold and wet outside and all of your friends are in hibernation mode- so chances are you’ll be spending a lot of time in the house until the spring rolls back around! It’s natural to want to hide out and shelter from the elements at this time of year, but it doesn't mean to say you need to unproductive. There are plenty of fantastic, positive changes you can make or get started on right now, that doesn't even require you to leave the house! Read on to find out more.

Enrol on an online course

You can study just about anything these days, right from the comfort of your home- from a masters in psychology to a Level 2 Service provider in an electrician course and everything in between. There are very few barriers to education, while online courses will come at a cost, it's generally a lot cheaper than attending university for a number of years, and many institutions give you the option to split the cost into instalments. Whether you want to improve your career, change job completely or just satisfy an interest you have about a subject, have a look online and sign up to an online college. It’s a great way to spend your spare time as you’re being productive and expanding your mind, and it looks good on your CV too. Even if you’re not directly looking for a new job or it doesn't link to what you want to do, employers can see that you use your free time improving yourself and that’s always going to be a good quality in their eyes.

Start a home based business

Want to improve your skills while earning some extra cash? Why not start a home based business, this can be a lot of fun and the money you make could go towards debt, savings or just to make your life easier. Think about the skills you currently have and go from there, for example if you’re a keen baker then why not start a home bakery business? If you have a craft like dressmaking or candle making that you do as a hobby, consider monetising it. Things like blogging, Youtube and freelance writing are all other things you could do in your free time at home that could earn you some money and can actually be quite enjoyable too. This is because you’re in control, and you only need to take on projects that you want to do so it’s not like a regular day in the workplace. While the weather is cold and miserable and you’re probably not out doing much anyway, why not make the most of it and improve your financial situation while you’re spending time indoors.

Get your finances in order

Speaking of finances, this is another way you can improve your life without even leaving the house. Money is important, whether you earn a little or a lot, you need to be in control and managing your outgoings. Spend some time reducing your bills, once a year get onto price comparison sites and shop around for the best deals. Work out where you’re currently overspending and make some cutbacks, and see if you can simplify your bill paying process too. For example, if you open a new bank account specifically for bills, you can set everything to be taken out by direct debit. That way there’s no need for you to be phoning or going online to pay individual bills, or accidentally spending bill money in your current account while you wait for things to be taken out. Work out how much you’ll need to transfer in each week or month, and set it to come out by standing order after you’ve been paid. That way your bills are fully automated, you never have to think about them and generally everything runs much more smoothly.

Organise your surroundings

Home is such an important place; it’s our sanctuary from the world, a place of respite where we can relax and unwind from whatever the world throws at us. So making sure it’s a pleasant place to be is a good use of your time. Clean, declutter and organise so it’s only filled with things you need and love, and everything has a place so is easy to find. Decorate in calming colours, and add decor pieces that make it unique to you- display travel souvenirs, hang photographs, choose quirky furniture that you love and put all of your favourite novels out on a shelf or bookcase. When you’re happy in your home environment, chances are you’ll be less stressed in your everyday life as you know you have a nice place to come home to each day. While you’re currently spending a lot of time in the house, why not spruce it up and make some changes? If you want to take on a bigger project, you could even look into bigger home renovations such as a new kitchen or bathroom. However, even small changes and a good deep clean can make a significant difference.

Start working out

Working out doesn’t have to involve going outside to run, or hitting the gym. There are lots of exercises you can do from the comfort of your home, by the summer you could have made major changes to your physique and be feeling much more confident and comfortable in your own skin. You could use bodyweight exercises to tone up, or invest in a treadmill or exercise bike to use at home. Anything you can do that will get your heartrate up will be doing your body some good, so even on rainy days don't think you need to hide under the blanket and skip out on exercise!

Will you be doing any of these things this year?
