Street shopping in Namma Bengaluru

By Hand On The Hip - 10/20/2016

Hey there!

Street shopping is over-rated? Hell no! I believe in spending less and buying more :D Today I am going to give you a few tips for street shopping and also some of my personal favorite spots in our own garden city. Here are some of the things you will need before you start shopping -

- Comfortable footwear and clothing to go shopping in
- A big rucksack or a backpack that you will need to carry your purchases in
- A tonne of cash, because ATMs may not be accessible
- A bottle of water, glucose or juice
- A cap and a pair of sunnies if you want to go during the day
- Incredible bargaining skills! (Goes without saying! :D)

I have seen and heard that Sarojini Nagar in Delhi and Colaba Causeway in Bombay are some of the best places for street shopping in India. But not all of us have the luxury of traveling to these cities and shop as we please. So I decided to put together a list of places you could go to in our own Bengaluru and shop to your hearts content!

1. Brigade Road
Of course, for years together now Brigade Road has been every girl's favorite shopping destination. From stores like Lifestyle, Levi's, Bata to "I love Bangalore" t-shirts being sold by the side of the road, Brigade Road has stolen everybody's hearts. Some of my favorite spots are the Mota Arcade, the Tibetian Plaza and this shoe store at the very entrance of the street.

2. Commercial Street
I could spend one full day in Commercial Street and binge shop. The clothes, shoes and accessories you get there are incredibly pretty and dirt cheap. If there is anything that comes close to Sarojini in Bangalore, it's Commercial Street!

3. Jayanagar Complex
For those of you in South Bangalore, this is the one place you can get absolutely anything you need. Be it arts and craft material, festival and puja items, school bags and sling bags, latest kurtis and tops - everything under one roof! This is probably one of the oldest shopping destinations of Bangalore.

4. Chikpet
Festivals and weddings? Do not want to spend half a lakh on lehengas? Then you should go to Chikpet. Chikpet has an amazing collection of Indian ethnic wear. From sarees to lehengas to chudidaars to jewelry, they have it all! My favorite store is Meena Bazaar. If you have been following my blog, you will find a post on the lehenga I got from there.

5. Malleswaram
For those of you who live in old Bangalore, this entire street of shops in Malleswaram is awesome for street shopping. You can get skirts and tees for 50 bucks! Yes, 50 INR! Once again, this is a one-stop-shop for all things you need.

These are just the obvious places one would go to shop in Bengaluru. What about the rest? Let me list out a few hidden places to shop from that not many people are aware of.

BTM Layout, Madiwala and Maruti Nagar - There are a bunch of places you could shop from in and around these areas. Maruti Nagar has a street full of shops for ethnic wear as well as western wear. You can also find tonnes of pretty jewellery that are available for throwaway prices!

Ibrahim Sahib Street - There is this street that is parallel to Commercial Street where you get a lot of cool stuff. And they're cheaper than the stuff you get in Com Street! Yes! Can you believe that? Check it out!

Koramangala - There is an exhibition opposite Forum mall which is always up and running. You should definitely check it out if you are in the neighbourhood!

Well, that's all folks. Happy shopping! See you soon!

Love,
